Quarterly taxes hearing March 25
PARIS — Citizens will be given the chance to voice their opinions on a proposal to switch to quarterly, rather than biannual tax collection at a March 25 public hearing.
During their meeting Monday, selectmen voted to hold the public hearing at the Paris Fire Station immediately prior to their regularly-scheduled meeting.
In February, Town Manager Amy Bernard proposed a change to quarterly tax collection, suggesting it might prevent a cash flow issue that has affected the town this year.
Selectmen have expressed optimism that quarterly taxation could help the town's financial situation but still want to get input from the public.
Depending on citizen reaction, the board may place the proposal on the warrant for the annual town meeting in June.
Residents will also vote for elected officials in June – nomination papers will be available March 18 for two seats on the selectboard, one seat on the SAD 17 board of directors and one seat on the Paris Utility District trustee board, all for three-year terms.
Papers are due back to the town office April 26.
