Selectmen accept bids for new lights at all fire stations

OTISFIELD —  Bids to install new bay lighting at the town's three fire stations were accepted by selectmen at their February 20 meeting.

The town has three separate stations – one at Spurrs Corner, one in Pugleyville and one on Gore Road.

Morellco Electric, of Casco, will install T-8 high-performance 8-foot industrial strip lighting with a reflector in the bays of all three stations at a total cost of $6,475. Otisfield Fire Captain Jared Damon presented the bids.

Damon said the overall price does not factor in the rebate expected from Efficiency Maine.

Damon also received bids from Field Electric, of Oxford, and New England Electric, Inc., of Naples, for T-5s, T-5s with reflectors and T-8s without reflectors.

Morellco presented the lowest bid for T-8 fixtures with the reflector.

According to Damon, while it would be cheaper for the town to install the T-8 fixtures without the reflector, "you get almost 50 percent more lumens [amount of light], if you put the shield over it .. It concentrates the light down more where you need it," he told selectmen.

Selectmen said they trusted Damon's judgement and accepted the bids from Morellco Electric.

If started soon, Damon said the installation of T-8s with reflectors at all three fire stations should be complete within four weeks.
