Oxford town meeting set for June 8

OXFORD —  The annual town meeting will be held on June 8, the same date as last year, selectmen decided during their February 7 meeting.

The selectmen were presented with the option to keep the same town meeting date or move it to June 14, following the state-wide election day June 11.

According to Town Manager Michael Chammings, a resident requested the board reschedule the meeting this year until after the June election.

Town Clerk Ellen Morrison told the board that holding town meeting before the election could prevent a situation in which a "disgruntled" selectman who lost a reelection didn't show up to present the town budget.

Chammings said a situation like that developed in a town he had previously worked for.

The board voted unanimously to keep town meeting June 8.
