Last days
To the Editor:
One of the most exciting part of being an internet pastor is the questions I receive from readers worldwide, for unlike a Pastor of a fixed church, anyone, anywhere, can go to ChristianPatriot.com, read and ask questions.
The question most asked over the past five years has been: “Is there anywhere in the Bible where it's easy to understand the days we live in?” The answer is simple, and while there are literally hundreds of chapters written about what is frequently and correctly called the End Times, the easiest verses to understand and apply to today are found in 2 Timothy 3, verses 1-7, if one will but understand the terms used in verse one.
1. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2 Timothy 3:1 ACP/KJV)
Let’s start with the word “last” as in “in the last days” of verse one. That word “last” is eschatos, pronounced es'-khat-os and it means literally the final days of an era. The word “days” in the same verse is hemera, pronounced hay-mer'-ah and means literally the time space between dawn and dawn, or the whole 24 consecutive hours in one of our days. In verse one we also find “perilous times” that word perilous is chalepos, pronounced khal-ep-os' and means a time when strength is reduced, a time that is dangerous, by implication a time that is furious and fierce, a time that is perilous.
So, last days is, if you were counting 1 to a 1,000 the 1,000th day, if you were counting down from 1,000 to 1, it would be the number 1. Perilous times, doesn’t mean perilous for all, that will come for the vast majority after the church is raptured, but it means it will be extremely difficult for true Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians.
Armed with the understanding of verse one, literally anyone can go on and read and understand verses 2-7.
