Wonderful show

To the Editor:

What a wonderful show. And to think it all occurred in little ole Norway. I’m talking about what occurred at our famed Norway Memorial Library on Monday evening, November 12.

I was treated to an evening of instrumental brass music that was presented by The Colonial Brass, a sextet made up of two servicewomen and four servicemen from the 66th Air Base Group out of Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.

These six talented, very talented, individuals played a wide variety of pieces from D. Shostakovich to John Phillip Sousa to a Texas composer whose piece was entitled Dill Pickles Rag, an enthusiastic ragtime number played with excellent skill on the xylophone by Tech. Sgt. Charles Lawyer.

It was an evening of musical entertainment that too many people missed but many, perhaps upwards of 50 or so, were fortunate enough not to have missed. The response of the crowd to all that they heard was truly gratifying.

The musicians all gave introductions to the individual pieces and were both warm and friendly, as was the reception that they received by the welcoming audience.

This was indeed an event that should bring us all together as Norway was chosen by this sextet in a phone call to Beth Kane, our tireless library director, by one of the group who expressed their collective desire to perform in a library setting in the Oxford Hills region of Maine.

And all at no expense to those who witnessed this truly historic event. I would also like to thank the Friends of Norway Memorial Library which gave so generously of its time and talent as it provided delicious refreshments after the concert.

All in all, it was a truly wonderful evening of fun and music and for those who were unable to attend, I thank you for allowing me the privilege of accepting your seat.
