Debate question

To the Editor:

I read about the presidential debate organized for eighth graders and held at the HS.

Just curious, why did the debate not include representatives for all the Presidential candidates?

I understand why the media/RNC/DNC includes only two of the candidates in the televised debates. It has to do with money, it has to do with "power," it has to do with what I call the 'good ole boy' network.

I do not think any of those things influenced the debate held at the High School. Maybe I am wrong about that.

Also, I am hoping that the organizers of the event emphasized to the highly influential eighth graders the importance of not making decisions based on candidate "performance" in a debate?

Your newspaper writer seemed to think that performance, including how they were dressed, was way more important ("everything") in a debate. Is this really what we want to teach our children about the election process?
