Eden’s Ridge, back to the '90s

To the Editor:

As an actor, former owner of the Jack and Jill Shoppe in downtown Norway, and an Oxford Hills resident, "The Road To Eden’s Ridge, the musical," written and directed by Sally Jones and Steve Jones, is a walk back in time.

It means the world to me, and it is a thrill to be a cast member of this brilliantly written play depicting Norway, Maine as the centerpiece for Eden’s Ridge.

Norway, back in the early 1990s with its Main Street characters who earned their living running businesses, the families whose lives were shattered by tragedy, characters who invested time and cared deeply about their families, and the young lives whose dreams became reality, along with many who were very focused on saving the Opera House ... it’s all so real, and it’s all cleverly presented in this play.

As a merchant on Main Street, Norway in the early '90s I was very concerned about saving our wonderful icon, the Opera House, and the play brings it all to life again. And, thankfully, there is now a real committee solely focused on restoring the Opera House. Oh, the similarities and the likeness is amazing!

I am very excited to be part of this warm wonderful story that will bring you back in time, will bring you hilarious laughter, joy, tears, and music you’ve never heard that will leave you singing for days to come!

Watch our local characters of yesteryear unfold before your eyes, and savor in the joy of your hometown talented writer’s remarkable production. Along with the brilliance of this play, it is an adaption of the book "The Road To Eden’s Ridge," written by another person with local connections, Myra McLarey (pen name M.L. Rose), a former English teacher at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

This story also has connections to Nashville, TN which is near where Myra now lives.

Don’t miss this special event presented on November 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17 beginning at 8 p.m. and November 11 and 18 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Norway Grange Hall.

Tickets are on sale now at Books N Things on Main Street, Norway. Friends, you’ll love this play! Bring your tissues, and prepare yourself for an amazing journey.
