"C U @ 22"
To the Editor:
On October 17 the Oxford Hills community once again gave their time and energy to the OHCHS class of 2012. For the seventh year, “C U @ 22” was presented to our soon-to-be graduates by the staff of Oxford Federal Credit Union and many community volunteers. The students initially learned about credit scores and why they matter.
They were then assigned a monthly salary and went to different tables to “buy” a car, insure that car, choose a food plan, rent an apartment and furnish that apartment. There were eight different tables in all. At the end of the exercise, the students added up their monthly expenses with the difficult challenge to live within their budget.
It was a wonderful day and our seniors learned valuable money management information and had a wonderful time doing it. I would like to thank the many volunteers from Oxford Federal Credit Union with a special thanks to Susan Graves, Kim Davis, Michelle Walker, Owen Melville, Audra Pingree, Sam Noyes, Tammy Daigle, Angela McAlister, Julie Volkernick and Wendy Martin.
In addition, a special thank you goes to the Oxford Hills business people and community members that gladly gave up their time for our students. Thank you Jayme Lane from Bessey Motors, Marianne Todd from Wheeler Insurance, Joanie Jacobs from WOXO, Greg Graves from Sunday River and Matt Crandal from Appy. LLC.
Thank you, Tally Decato, Ron Morse and Bev Glover – all community members that spent the day with us keeping the students organized. Thank you to Paul Bickford, Jane Munn and Jane Morse, all staff members from SAD #17, who also took time out of their busy schedules and spent the morning with our students.
Additional thanks goes to all the local businesses that donated gift certificates and prizes.
This is the seventh year of this wonderful community partnership. My hope is that this valuable gift to our OHCHS seniors continues for many more years!
