Shame on us for being called least godly

To the Editor:

I heard on TV last week that Maine is the least religious state in the union. I asked myself, "Did I contribute to some of the falling away from God?" Oh, yes I did! Everything I do has consequences not just for me but also my children, their children, friends and the community.

I was reading the Bible last week and read Romans 1:24-31. It went along with the way our county is moving. Read it for yourself:

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator who is forever praised. Amen.

"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even the women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

"Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil, they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless."

When I buy a car or anything else I get a manual. The Bible is God's manual. The "politically correct" are trying to take God's manual, the Bible, out of our society.

What can we expect God to do for our nation when we turn our backs on Him and let others influence us in ungodly ways?

Think about our children, our country, our next election and our state. Think about what is going on and get serious for God before our nation is just a chapter in a history book - another nation that turned its back on God. Shame on us that we are called the least godly state in the country. I call it shameful and sad.
