Hayes committed to students

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Terry Hayes for re-election to the Maine House of Representatives in District 94. I am not a resident of her district and therefore not able to vote for Terry, however I know what she has done for her constituents over the years, and particularly what she has done for our eighth grade students at Buckfield Junior Senior High School.

Our eighth grade students have had the unique opportunity to accompany Mrs. Hayes to the capitol for a “day at work” in state government for the past two years. She promptly arrives at school at 7 a.m. once or twice a week during session to drive three students to Augusta.

The schedule on the days they attend varies depending on the demand for Mrs. Hayes’ time, ensuring students will have a variety of experiences.

They mainly work as honorary pages, however they may also attend some routine meetings, join Mrs. Hayes and her colleagues for lunch, attend a meeting of a joint standing committee of interest to the students, visit other officials, such as the Secretary of State, and/or visit the State of Maine Museum.

The students at BJSHS are indeed fortunate to spend the day with an experienced representative who knows what it is like to work as a state government official in our great state of Maine.

They find out how state government operates, and how state officials work together to positively impact Maine residents. After their day at the state house they reflect on what it means to be a responsible citizen and how in the future it will be their turn to make important decisions for their home state.

Terry Hayes’s commitment to our students has been greatly appreciated by the students and staff and we hope you consider her when you visit the polls this November.
