Vote for Angus King

To the Editor:

This letter is being written to urge voters (Republicans, Democrats or Independents) who put common sense and the best interests of the public ahead of partisan politics to vote for Independent Angus King in this year's U.S. Senate race.

As governor, Angus King established a record of moderation and civility that led to a high degree of cooperation between parties for two terms, resulting in some very productive years in Maine politics. He orchestrated the political balance needed to go forward. He was rewarded by the overwhelming support of the Maine electorate.

The present congressional fighting has led to uncertainty, wasted time and money, stalling and failure to address major issues. Congress is like two highly partisan baseball teams playing without umpires.

If you watch the television ads, read and listen to political reports, it is obvious that the only hope for umpire involvement is the election of independent candidates. Umpires don't win the games, but they are the best chance we have to keep it from turning into complete chaos.
