NORWAY —   A Norway woman was charged with operating under the influence after she drove her car off the road and into a tree with her seven- and nine-year-old children inside, said Norway Police Officer James Ventresca.

Sarah Timm, 36, was driving her 2003 Volkswagen Jetta back from the Waterford area on Friday with her two children when she drove off the road and into a tree on Crockett Ridge Road in Norway, Ventresca said.

Ventresca reported that Timm's blood-alcohol test showed .24, three times the legal limit.

According to Ventresca, witnesses reported Timm's vehicle was driving erratically just before 10:30 p.m., before it crashed into the tree.

Ventresca said Timm was not injured in the accident but her two children did receive bruising from their seat belts. "When I was talking to them [the children], you could see the bruising starting to occur," he said.

After being checked out by PACE, the children were turned over to their father who arrived on scene and Timm was taken to Oxford County Jail, Ventresca said.

SAD 17 Superintendent Rick Colpitts confirmed Tuesday that Timm is a third-grade teacher at Agnes Gray Elementary School in West Paris and has served on various committees within the school district.

"The district is aware of the allegations and has met with Sarah to talk to her about implications for her work," Colpitts said.
