Paris police move forward

We have recently had the pleasure of meeting and talking with three new hires at the Paris Police Department.

Although widely ranging in age and experience, these three new officers bring a refreshing enthusiasm to the beleaguered department.

Officer Gilbert is the youngest, in his 20s, and we would guess he comes without preconceived notions. He seems eager to learn and is looking forward to his police academy training.

Officer Simms, in his 40s, has quite a bit of experience under his belt as well as a lot of training. He, too, will be attending the academy. And while he has worked for Paris PD in the past, he seems focused on professionalism and fulfilling his position as a role model, enforcer of law and victim advocate.

Officer Carr brings the most experience to the department. After 25 years with the Maine State Police, he is a wealth of knowledge, training and, we would bet, is long past getting caught up in politics and angst.

These three, with the other career officers in the department, will offer Paris citizens a department that is moving forward with a focused,  courteous, conscientious and determined professionalism that will enable it to be an outstanding police force.

Chief David Verrier seems focused on helping his officers achieve and his department prosper.

We welcome these three and look forward to watching the Paris Police Department move forward, with a fresh start, leaving issues where they belong – in the past.
