OXFORD —   A Buckfield man was arrested early Tuesday after leading police on an eight-minute high speed chase and crashing his vehicle on East Oxford Road.

Kenneth Dunn, 27, was charged with eluding an officer and criminal speeding (30-plus over the speed limit), according to a release from the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office.

Around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to ACSO, Dunn was speeding 65 mph west on Route 121 in Minot, a 35 mph zone, in his black 2002 Volkswagen Golf, when he was met near the Minot Post Office by Androscoggin County Deputy Jon Guay, who was traveling east.

Deputy Guay reversed direction and attempted to catch up to Dunn, ACSO reported, which he did – on Route 121 in Poland.

According to ACSO, Dunn failed to stop for Deputy Guay and instead kept increasing his speed. According to the police scanner, the vehicle reached up to 100 mph shortly after crossing over the Mechanic Falls town line.

At this point, Guay gave up trying to stop Dunn as they were entering downtown Mechanic Falls, ACSO reported. Instead, he shut off his emergency lights and continued driving at normal speed, searching the area for the speeding vehicle.

Less than six minutes later, according to ACSO, Oxford Police spotted the Volkswagen traveling on East Oxford Road in Oxford, where it had gone off the road and crashed into a tree.

According to the press release, Dunn was not injured in the accident, but his Volkswagen was totaled.

Deputy Guay arrested Dunn on scene of the accident.

Dunn is currently being held at Androscoggin County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. According to ACSO, additional charges are expected from the Oxford Police Department.
