Sex offender changes appearance
NORWAY — David W. McDaniels of Everett Lane, Norway, a registered sex offender, has changed his appearance, according to Detective Gary Hill of the Norway Police.
Sex offenders are required to re-register annually, say police, and when McDaniels re-registered this month, he had significantly changed his appearance – shaving his head, growing a beard and adding a pair of glasses.
Police are concerned because the changes are easily temporary and they feel the public needs to know that McDaniels may not look like that for long.
The 52-year-old was charged and pleaded guilty to a sex charge in September of 2011, minutes before his trial was to begin. He served 90 days in jail for assaulting a teenage girl. Other charges were dropped.
He received a year of probation during which he was not allowed contact with females under 18.
Justice Robert Clifford ordered McDaniels to undergo a sex offender evaluation and follow recommendations from the evaluation as part of his probation.
On September 19, 2011, before his trial on four charges of gross sexual assault, against a different girl – a nine-year-old – which is a Class A offense, McDaniels pleaded no contest to a single charge of unlawful sexual contact, a Class D offense. He will be on the state Sex Offender Registry for 10 years.
In the meantime, police want the public to be aware that his appearance may change.
