Paris man arrested for marijuana
PARIS — A man in possession of a half-pound of marijuana was arrested July 17 after police discovered it in the trunk of the subject's vehicle.
Glenn Farrar, 53, of 100 Gary Street in Paris was charged with Unlawfully Furnishing a Schedule Z Drug (marijuana), said Norway Investigator Jeffrey Campbell. According to Campbell, Farrar was found guilty of cultivating marijuana in 2009.
Campbell said that the investigation continues and there may be additional charges.
While on duty in Norway, Campbell said he received information from a confidential informant that Farrar was in possession of a "large amount" of marijuana. According to the police report, the informant had recently purchased marijuana from Farrar, as well as several times before.
The confidential informant told Campbell that Farrar is in the business of selling marijuana, and that Farrar had "approximately one pound of marijuana in his vehicle" and that the informant "had seen the marijuana within the last several hours," according to Campbell's report.
According to Campbell, he and Paris Police Officer Raymond Paar attempted to make contact with Farrar at his residence at 100 Gary Street to gain consent for a search, but discovered that Farrar's vehicle, a green 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, was not parked at his home.
Investigator Campbell and Officer Paar then attempted to locate the vehicle and found it parked in the Save-A-Lot supermarket lot in Paris.
Campbell said he and Paar were assisted by Paris Police Lieutenant Michael Dailey and all three waited in the parking lot for Farrar to return to his vehicle. State Trooper Adam Fillebrown also assisted on scene with his K-9 Unit – Caro – to conduct a drug search, as requested by Campbell.
Campbell stated in his report that he observed Farrar walking from Save-A-Lot to the Cavalier. As Farrar opened the door to the vehicle, Campbell approached Farrar and advised him that he was aware Farrar was in possession of marijuana.
When Campbell asked Farrar whether there was in fact marijuana in the vehicle, "he [Farrar] reached through the partially opened driver's window and retrieved a partially smoked marijuana 'joint,'" said Campbell.
When asked by officers whether there was additional marijuana in the vehicle, Farrar stated there was not and refused to open the trunk. While waiting for assistance from state police, "Farrar stated that he has 'smoked marijuana since I was 15 and never even had a ticket,'" said Campbell.
An additional eight ounces of marijuana inside a bag containing a digital scale and several plastic zip-lock bags, as well some potting soil, was discovered in the trunk, said Campbell.
Along with the marijuana, police officers discovered $370 "in sorted denominations" in Farrar's shorts pocket, said Campbell. Farrar told Campbell he was unsure of the amount.
When asked what he did for work, Farrar said that he was a full-time student. Campbell advised Farrar that he "was not aware of anyone that was paid cash to be a student."
Officer Paar seized Farrar's cash as proceeds from the sale of marijuana as well as Farrar's cell phone. Russell and Son's Towing secured Farrar's vehicle.
According to Oxford County jail officials, Farrar was released on July 17 around 11 p.m. on $500 unsecured bail.
