McFalls man stunned, arrested after long standoff

MECHANIC FALLS — A 21-year-old man who was armed and drunk late Sunday into early Monday was stunned with a taser and arrested after a 90-minute standoff with police.

Devin Stevens, of 45 Pleasant Street, was taken into custody after threatening several people, including himself, according to state police. The incident began at 10:34 p.m. Sunday and ended Monday around 12:10 a.m.

A 911 hang-up call, according to Mechanic Falls Police Chief Jeff Goss, was what led police to the scene.

Pleasant Street (Route 121) was blocked by police between North Main and North Streets during the incident.

According to Goss, shortly before the incident ended, Stevens came outside and was armed with a handgun and appeared intoxicated.

He was also uncooperative with police, said Goss. When Stevens looked away briefly, one officer was able to tase him ending the standoff, he said.

That's when police arrested Stevens.

Stevens was then taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston for a psychological evaluation, Goss said.

Stevens is being charged with criminal threatening with a weapon.
