Driver in Allen Hill rollover charged with OUI
DRUNK DRIVING — Virginia Goodwin, 52, of South Paris, the driver of this 2013 Nissan Altima, was charged with Operating Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Substance after she crashed her vehicle while traveling on Allen Hill Road on January 7, according to Oxford Police Lieutenant Michael Ward. According to Ward, Goodwin's blood alcohol test showed that she was three times the legal limit when the accident occurred.
OXFORD — A Paris woman who rolled her vehicle on Allen Hill Road in January has been charged with Operating Under the Influence of an Intoxicating Substance by the Oxford Police Department, reported Oxford Lieutenant Michael Ward.
According to Ward, the blood alcohol content of the driver, Virginia Goodwin, 52, was more than three times the legal limit (0.08) when she lost control and crashed her 2013 Nissan Altima while turning a corner as she was traveling south on Allen Hill Road, approximately 1.28 miles north of State Route 121.
The accident occurred on January 7.
Ward reported in January that Goodwin drove between a utility pole and an apple tree, through a stone wall and rolled over two-and-a-half times before coming to rest on its roof.
He also reported Goodwin was trapped in her vehicle when responders arrived on scene, around 10 p.m., and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Ward said speed was also a factor in the crash. According to the crash report, the weather was clear and the road surface was dry.
Goodwin was transported to Central Maine Medical Center by LifeFlight for possible injury to her head, according to the report. At first, her injuries were thought to be life-threatening due to the extent of the vehicle's damage, Ward said.
According to the crash report, Goodwin was wearing her seat belt during the accident, but her airbag did not deploy. In January, Ward reported that there were no other occupants in the vehicle aside from a dog that was unharmed.
There were no other vehicles involved, he said.
"She's very lucky," Ward said Monday.
Goodwin is expected to appear in Oxford County District Court on April 11, Ward said.
