Mining camps will be topic

POLAND — Poland Mining Camps will be the topic addressed at the next Person to Person Potluck/Program to be held at the A.B. Ricker Memorial Library in Poland on Sunday, February 10, from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

Mary Groves, owner of the camps, will also display and discuss a collection of heart-shaped rocks in her talk, Hearts of Stone.

Irving Groves, founder of the camps located within the heart of Maine’s Granite Pegmatite Belt, began construction of the complex that includes a Geological Conference Center in the 1950s, to cater to the needs of collectors, enthusiasts and geologists. It draws people from around the world.

Everyone is invited to hear Ms. Groves talk about her business and her avocation as a “rockhound.” The program will be preceded by a potluck supper. Guests are asked to bring a casserole, salad or dessert to share at the potluck table.
