Diabetes clinic offers education program

BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic will sponsor its three-part Diabetes Education Program on February 27, March 6 and March 8 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The sessions will be held in the Bridgton Hospital Boardroom.

Bridgton Hospital has received the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self‑management education program.

The series requires physician referral and early registration is suggested due to its popularity (class size is limited to assure personal attention).

Topics covered include the importance of exercise and physical activity, healthy meal plans and diabetes, hypoglycemia signs and symptoms, medications to control diabetes, complications and diabetes, diabetes and eye care, and diabetes and proper foot care.

Medicaid and most insurance plans cover the course registration fee.

In addition to Elaine Drew, RN/CDE, a registered nurse who is also a certified diabetes nurse educator (CDE), lecturers will include Linda Russell, MA, RD/LD, CDE, Registered Dietitian; Dr. S. Scott Ferguson, Optometrist; Karen Bogdan, OT, Occupational Therapist and Denyell Gerchmann, R.Pharm.

These classes are designed to give general information about diabetes and help the patient manage their diabetes. The course also introduces patients to a diabetes support system.
