MECHANIC FALLS — Mechanic Falls Auxiliary Post 150 will hold a baked bean and casserole supper on Saturday, January 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Post on Elm Street. The cost is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3.50 for children.
OTISFIELD — Al and Pattie Haggerty announce the third annual Free Soup and Chowder Fest at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, 231 Rayville Road, off Route 121 in Otisfield. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19. Rain or snow date is January 26. There will be home-cooked soups and chowders, cornbread, dumplings, biscuits and desserts. OTISFIELD — A Community Lunch Social will be held Wednesday, January 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121. The menu will include beef stew, veggie stew, corn bread, salads, dessert, coffee and tea. Renew old acquaintances and make new friends. Please call Nancy Coombs at 627-4374 if you need a ride. WATERFORD — The Wilkins Community House will hold a Community Potluck Supper on Thursday, January 17 at 6 p.m. All are welcome! The Community House is located in Waterford Flat on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green next door to the church.
Community suppers are held on the third Thursday of each month through May. The hosts for this supper are the Raymonds and the Patries. Bring a friend and a dish to share and enjoy chatting with new friends and neighbors.
Dance Band
SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will be playing old fashioned dance music at the Legion Hall on Church Street in South Paris, from 7 to 10 p.m. on January 12, 19 and 26. The cost is $5 for adults.
Texas Hold'em
OXFORD — The Sons of the American Legion announced that they will be hosting a Texas Hold'em Tournament twice during January, on Friday, January 11 and 25. The doors will open at 5 p.m. and the games will start at 6 p.m. and go until it's over. The buy-in will be $35. Food will be available at the kitchen.
In addition, there will be a door prize to be drawn just before the games begin. According to spokesman Nelson Foley, "there will be more than one door prize." This will also be a BYOB event for those who might prefer that option.
Proceeds will go to fund current and future programs of the American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion. For more information, call 539-2649.
Rabies clinics
SUMNER — A rabies clinic will be held Saturday, January 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sumner fire station. The fee for cats and dogs is $10. Sumner dogs may be licensed at the same time in the fire station - bring new spay/neuter certificates or rabies certificates from your vet.
OXFORD — A rabies clinic for the towns of Oxford and Otisfield will be held on Saturday, January 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Station House Recreation Center on 223 King Street in Oxford. Oxford and Otisfield residents will be able to register their dogs at this time. Please bring your last rabies certificate if you have it.
NORWAY — A rabies vaccination and microchipping clinic, sponsored by Responsible Pet Care, will be held Saturday, January 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Norway fire station. Cost is $10 for rabies vaccine and $25 for microchipping. Microchipping your pets will aid in locating them should a disaster occur or if they are lost. The attending veterinarian will be Dr. Suzanne Best, DVM. For more information, call 743-8679.
