Whitman Memorial Library news

BRYANT POND — Seasons Greetings from the Whitman Memorial Library. Thery have been busy this fall and are continuing the monthly programs. They are usually on the second Thursday of the month, but occasionally they have to change because of other conflicts.

So watch the paper for announcements. The January schedule is on track for Thursday, the 10th, with Arla Patch speaking about her work on the Truth & Reconciliation and the Maine Wabenaki State Child Welfare.

Jennifer Locke of South Paris currently has her Mandala art work on display. Come in and enjoy. Jennifer will be doing a program for the library soon. Several people have already expressed an interest in how to do it.

This month there was a good turnout for the Christmas craft program. About a dozen people showed up and made tree ornaments and enjoyed the projects. As always the library thanks the presenters; their time and talent is donated and it is certainly appreciated.

The library now has Wi - Fi and there is no charge to use it. They hope it will be helpful to people.

The library is going to try having an ongoing book sale in the library basement. They are asking $1 for hard cover books, 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for videos. They have lots of classic videos on VCR cassettes. DVDs are the popular way to go now, but if you still have a VCR, come in and look at what they have.

They have lots of new books since the last library column. Two children’s books are "The Buggiest Bug," by Carol D. Shields and the graphic novel “Lost Trail,” the story of Don Fendler and his nine days alone in the wilderness. The library wants to thank the Oxford County Educators Assoc. - Retired for those donations. OCEA-R has undertaken a project of giving one or two children’s books to every library in Oxford County every year. What a great project!

New Hampshire author Jodi Picoult has written a novel for young adults with her daughter, Samantha Van Leer. It is called “Between the Lines.” If you are a Jodi Picoult fan you will want to check this out.

Other books are “Eat, Pray, Love," Elizabeth Gilbert; “The Road to Grace,” Richard Paul Evans; ‘The Silver Boat,” Luanne Rice; “Prague Winter,” Madeleine Albright; “Afterwards," Rosamund Lupton; “Escape from Camp 14”, Blain Harden; “The Fiddler,” Beverly Lewis; “Loving,” Karen Kingsbury; “Return to Grace,” Karen Harper; “The Proposal,” Mary Balogh; “Tuesday’s Child,” Fern Michaels; “The Garden Club,” Lori Wilde; “At Hidden Falls,” Barbara Freethy; “Where We Belong,” Emily Griffin; “Friends Forever,” Danielle Steele; “ The Great Escape,” Susan Phillips; “The Innocents,” Francesca Segal; “Beautiful ruins,” Jess Walter; “Wild,” Cheryl Strayed; “Missing,” Maggie J.
