Norlands schedules interactive holiday

LIVERMORE — The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore opens for a 19th century interactive holiday celebration on Sunday, December 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Journey back to the days of old and enjoy 19th century parlor games, children’s activities in the cozy Norlands kitchen, caroling, the one-room schoolhouse, jingle-bell wagon rides, fresh molasses cookies and mulled cider made on the woodstove, and the simply decorated Washburn mansion.

Kerck Kelsey, Washburn descendant and family historian, will share stories about Washburn family Christmases through the years. These talks take place at 12:30 and 2 p.m.

New this year is a Cookie Walk. Fill a bag with a variety of delicious homemade cookies for only $5. Proceeds benefit the barn rebuilding fund.

A quilt made of vintage fabrics by the Livermore Village Scrappers and a basket of homemade chocolate goodies by Lucille Lavoie will be raffled at the end of the day. Proceeds also benefit the barn rebuilding fund.

The gift shop will be open and filled with unique treasures. There is something for everyone, such as books, prints, cards, caps and bonnets, dolls, old-time toys, candy and more.

The event has been organized by a group of dedicated Norlands volunteers who have been studying Livermore history and the lifestyles of people in the late 1800s. For more information about Christmas at Norlands, call 897-4366 or visit www.norlands.org.

Admission benefits the nonprofit museum - $8 for adults, $6 for children under 12 and $25 family rate.
