Local Sandy relief effort needs donations
PARIS — Hundreds, if not thousands, of people are still dealing with the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. With the holiday season now upon us, it's all the more reason to try and give to those in need.
Lisa Eichel of West Paris, along with the help of family and friends, has decided to take on this challenge and is asking for everyone's help. Eichel was able to secure a tractor trailer from Eric D. Dashiell of Dashiell Transportation Inc. of Hamden, who is a friend of her family.
Dashiell is willing to donate his trailer and his time to travel to New Jersey to help aid with the hurricane recovery and relief effort. Lisa also contacted the Red Cross and was told the following items are still very much needed: bottled water, nonperishable food items, clothing, blankets, furniture, toiletries, building supplies, cleaning supplies, diapers, pet items, gift cards, rakes and shovels.
Two days of giving are being set up on Saturday, December 8, and Sunday, December 9, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School where the tractor trailer will be parked. All items can be dropped off at the high school between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on both days.
Everyone is asked to spread the word and be a person who cares. Help families as they begin to rebuild and move forward. Stop by with your donation. All help is appreciated. All donations will be delivered to the Red Cross.
For more information, contact Lisa Eichel at 890-3707.
