Knitters create purple hats

SOUTH PARIS — Community Concepts, Inc. recently collected several purple hats from the knitting group at Market Square Health Facility. Residents at Market Square gathered together on a weekly basis and worked on creating over 50 hats to distribute to local hospitals to raise awareness of the Period of Purple Crying.

The hats will then be provided to every baby born during the months of November and December.

In addition to the hat parents will also view a DVD on the Period of Purple Crying, which talks about infant crying and how to prevent shaken baby syndrome.

The purple hats are a part of the Click for Babies public education campaign organized by the Nation Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome in partnership with the Maine Children’s Trust and local Child Abuse and Neglect Councils.
