Scout donates to WMVAC
PARIS — At a recent Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee (WMVAC) meeting, a donation of $177 was given to Joe Cooney, co-Chairman of the group, from Owen Murphy of Auburn.
Owen, 12, is an eighth grader at Auburn Middle School and has developed a hobby of making bracelets from a material called paracord, which is cording used in parachute production.
He designed a way of weaving the cords in various colors, and adding a clasp, producing a unique piece of jewelry. He decided to sell these bracelets and donate the proceeds to WMVAC, which supports the activity program at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.
Upon hearing of this accomplishment, his Boy Scout troop awarded him the Entrepreneur badge. He is a member of Troop #007 in Auburn.
Bracelets are for sale from Owen for $10 each. For more information, he or his mom Pam can be reached at 689-5566.
