Tai Chi workshop offered at Dempsey
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free Tai Chi workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. The weekly sessions began Thursday, November 8 and run through December 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell Street in Lewiston.
Tai Chi is a widely practiced form of the ancient Chinese energetic self-care system known as Qi Gong. Tai Chi is a mind-body practice that combines gentle exercise, breathing practices and meditation to activate self-healing mechanisms that ancient Chinese texts call the “healer within” and the “elixir of life.”
Tai Chi instructor and licensed acupuncturist Toby Sifton will introduce slow, meditative movements that can be practiced by anyone of any age which have been clinically proven to increase balance, strength and flexibility. Sessions are limited to 12 participants.
Pre-registration is available by calling the Dempsey Center at 795-8250, toll-free 1-877-336-7287 or online at www.dempseycenter.org.
