Aspire Higher activities

November 5 Career Day in the afternoon

Harrison and Waterford 

November 7 Career Day Community members coming to talk with students. Before this event, classrooms will have discussions about different careers and what they need to do to accomplish their goals. No specific activity during the week of November 5 because fifth grade will be at the 4-H Camp.

Hebron Station 

November 7 Career Day during school day, STEM Night in the evening

Otisfield Community 

Week 2 We will invite a few guest speakers (throughout the week) to our school to discuss their occupations. The focus will be: explain to the students what steps you took to earn your job.

Students will also be asked to respond to the questions: What do you want to be? How will you achieve this goal? Some students will be chosen to share their writing at a schoolwide assembly. The writing will be displayed in the school.

Oxford Elementary

Goal 2: By May, 2013, 90% of students will demonstrate proficiency on an informational/explanatory prompt as measured by grade-level benchmarks of the Common Core State Standards.

Week 2 Community Speakers will discuss their careers and trades to individual classrooms.

OHCHS

November 7 College Planning in CBA

November 8 Latin students - college visit to Bates

Month of November Sophomore college trips (four trips throughout the month)

OHMS

November 1 Grade 7 Choices Career interest inventory and college reviews

November 7 Camfel Productions topic: power of self confidence/successful futures

Paris Elementary

Week of November 5: Assembly honoring Veterans with several local veterans speaking about their service 2 p.m. This will tie in with Veteran's Day.

Week of November 13: Aspire Higher Awards Assembly at 2:30 p.m. Give out scholarships.

Adult Education

College Tour: Thursday, November 8, the College Transition Program of Oxford Hills Adult Education will be taking a private tour of Central Maine Community College in Auburn. There will be a question and answer session for students who have concerns regarding the application and financial aid process.

The tour includes all departments of the college and students may have the opportunity to speak with department heads and instructors. This tour will be open to any adult education students or community members who may have an interest in post secondary education.

Aspirations in the Community

scholarship contest

Through November 16, any adult community member who comes to the Oxford Hills/Buckfield Adult Education office and mentions the word "Aspirations" will be entered into the drawing for one of the "Aspire Higher Non-traditional Student" scholarships in the amount of $100 each.
