Otisfield clean up slated

OTISFIELD — It's fall cleanup time in Otisfield. All residents are invited to join in for the morning on Sunday, October 28, as the Spurrs Corner Church of Otisfield sponsors its second annual roadways cleanup day.

Pastor Rick Mowery says he has heard many people refer to this beautiful area as "God's County." He explained that Spurrs Corner Church members feel a responsibility to help maintain the beauty of God's country and invites anyone to come and be part of the event.

All area residents are invited to meet at 8 a.m. at the church, located at 1005 State Route 121 in Otisfield, for a light breakfast. At 9 a.m. work teams will be organized and assigned a section of the town roadway. Each team will be accompanied by a support vehicle.

Safety equipment, first aid kits, garbage bags and water will be supplied by the church with additional safety equipment and project support provided by the Otisfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Otisfield. Returnable bottles recovered during the cleanup will be donated to the Otisfield Fire Department's ongoing bottle drive which benefits the work of the fire department.

This is a rain or shine event and will be cancelled only in case of severe weather. Participants are urged to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear including at least one item in blaze orange for safety. All ages and all mobility levels are invited to participate.

There will be appropriate jobs for everyone. The Spurrs Corner Church will not hold regular morning services on cleanup day. Event organizer Polly Bartow explained that members consider cleaning the roadways to be an act of worship both as a service project for the town and by caring for the environment.
