OTISFIELD — A rousing Nursing Home Picnic was held at the Otisfield Community Hall on September 20 to the music of Norman and Betty DeCoteau and Art Rogers. One guest came in dancing, and, as Elaine Doble-Verrill said, "Once people started dancing, that added another dimension to the entertainment. It just took over."
Residents from the Country Village Inn in Casco, Market Square Health Center and Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center attended the picnic. Organizers thank staff and family members who helped ensure that the residents were able to attend. Guest of honor, Miss Marian Culbert, attended from the Maine Veterans Home, thanks to her cousin Sandy Dunn. She is a member of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church which puts on this picnic every September.
Reverend Genise Stern opened with a prayer to honor each and every person who attended for the many contributions they have made to family and community during their lifetime. Cooks Dave Watson and Jean Jalbert manned the grills. Church members Ann Watson, Callie Zilinsky, Debbie Dyer, Frank Blauvelt, Jean Pottle, June Van Mourik, Elaine Doble-Verrill, Caroline Currier, Priscilla Delehanty, Kathy Lothrop, and Rev. Genise Stern helped as hosts. Food was provided by many church and community members.
When thanked for providing the music and singing, Norman DeCoteau replied: "I do it for Gertrude." His sister, Gertrude DeCoteau, was a longtime member of the church and the minister of the church for 23 years.
The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church has hosted this picnic for the past 11 years and they look forward to hosting it again next September.
