Auctions

RUMFORD — A take-a-chance auction will be held on Saturday, October 27, at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the drawing starts at 3 p.m. There will be lots of great items, gift cards, good food and a 50/50. Come and join in to help the Billings family raise money for a new livestock barn.

BUCKFIELD — There will be a ticket auction at Buckfield High School on Saturday, October 20. The viewing will be at 11 a.m. and the drawing at 1 p.m. There will be many gift certificates and hundreds of items. Proceeds will benefit the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department.

Texas Hold'Em

HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas Hold 'Em tournament on Saturday, October 20 at the VFW Hall on 176 Waterford Road in Harrison. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., the start time is 1 p.m. and the end time is 6 p.m. The $75 entry fee includes the stipend for the state license fee.

Food and refreshments will be available at this BYOB event. This is limited to 100 players. Come and have some fun. Proceeds will be used to provide services that the Lion's Club renders to the community.

Dance

HARRISON — The Harrison VFW Post on the Waterford Rd. in Harrison will be having a BYOB dance on October 20, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Admission is $10 per person for 21 and over. The band will be "The Road Kingz." Come in Halloween costume! Call Vicky at 583-4558 or 515-2052 for more information.

Church sales

MINOT — The Minot Methodist Church Fair "Susanna's Treasures" will be held in the church vestry on Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free coffee will be offered and a luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. Crafts, including knit goods, mittens and decorations will be available as well as Rada products. The home-baked food will include cookies, cakes, breads, pies, candy and home-canned goods. There will also be free drawings for door prizes and a silent auction table.

PARIS — The Fall Jumble Sale of the First Baptist Church of Paris on Paris Hill will be held on Saturday, October 20, from 8 to 11 a.m., with a Bag Sale to follow. Available for sale will be furniture, enamelware, antiques, holiday items, books, clothing, bikes, toys and much more. You may enjoy doughnuts and coffee while you shop, and there will also be baked goods for sale. This is a fun sale, so come and look for that perfect Halloween costume!

NORWAY — St. Catherine's Youth Ministry is having a rummage sale from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, in the Parish Hall at 32 Paris Street in Norway. A good selection of winter clothing will be available along with odds and ends. The youth use the funds earned for their retreats as well as charity to other teens.

Suppers

HARRISON — The Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church will hold its last “Famous” Chicken Pie Supper of the season this Saturday, October 20, at the Church in Bolsters Mills Village, Harrison. There will be two seatings at 5 and 6 p.m. with a third to follow at 7 p.m. if needed. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Dinner includes chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, rolls, homemade dessert, and beverage and is served family style.

Although accommodations will be made to the extent possible so as to not turn anyone away, it is recommended that reservations be made the morning of the supper between 9 a.m. and noon. Call 583-9024 during those hours for confirmation. Do not leave a message.

Don’t miss the last opportunity to enjoy this special chicken pie supper until next spring.

The Church is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

WEST PARIS — The public is invited to a community supper on Friday, October 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the First Universalist Church, Main St. in West Paris. On the menu is a hearty meal of homemade baked beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, breads, desserts and beverages. The supper is free; donations are welcome.

GRAY — The American Legion of Gray is having a public supper on Saturday, November 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 5 Lewiston Road in Gray. The cost will be $7 for adults, $2.50 for children up to 12 years and free for under five. The supper will include beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and desserts. Proceeds will help support veterans and their families.

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will hold a Field and Farm public supper on October 20 at 5:30 p.m. An assortment of dishes will be made from wild and domestic game and garden produce. The cost is $7 with a family maximum of $20. The church is located at 50 Main Street in Sumner. Take out will be available. For more information, call Linda at 388-2263.

Breakfast

HARRISON — The Harrison VFW Post, on the Waterford Rd. in Harrison, will be holding its popular breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 21 at the post on Route 35. The breakfast features scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and country gravy, bacon, sausage, home fries, fruit cup, sweet breads, orange juice and beverage. Donations are accepted.
