Fall foliage walk in Waterford
WATERFORD — The Western Foothills Land Trust is sponsoring a fall foliage walk in Waterford on Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m. Join in and walk a portion of the Portland Pipeline to see first hand the fall colors and relationship of the pipeline to the Crooked River and its tributaries. This is approximately a two-hour walk; if desired there is an opportunity for a longer hike.
Gather at 1 p.m. at the pipeline corridor where it crosses Mill Hill Rd in Waterford.
Directions:
From Norway take 118 toward Waterford. Turn onto Rte 117 at the head of Norway Lake. Take the first right onto Sodom Road. Travel approx. 4.5 miles (or 0.8 miles from the iron bridge crossing of Crooked River).
In Waterford from the intersection of McWain Hill Rd and Mill Hill Rd go 1.2 miles (east towards Norway).
Bring water to drink and snacks. Wear comfortable outdoor walking clothes and good outdoor footwear.
For more information contact Lee Dassler, Western Foothills Land Trust, at 739-2124 or WFLT@megalink.net or Bart Hague at 583-4439 or e-mail at bart.hague@roadrunner.com.
It is important to note that organizers fully support the Portland Pipeline as it is currently utilizing the pipeline. It is not their intent to stop the flow of regular oil through the Portland Pipeline as is happening now. It is simply their intent to prevent tar sands from flowing through the pipeline due to the increased risk of a spill as a result of abrasive/corrosive materials contained in the tar sands.
The potential environmental impact of a spill would be detrimental to the natural resources that are vital to the area's economy and water supplies.
