Tar Sands films to be shown in Waterford
WATERFORD — Waterford residents will gather to watch two films, one in opposition to tar sands and one in support of tar sands. A community conversation and questions and answer session will follow.
The Portland Montreal Pipeline is a 236-mile pipeline running from Montreal through Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The pipeline runs through Waterford and crosses the Crooked River six times. The pipeline has been pumping conventional light crude oil from South Portland to Montreal since the 1940s. Now, large Canadian oil companies want to reverse the flow of the pipeline and start bringing Canadian tar sands oil through Western Maine and into Casco Bay.
The films will be shown Wednesday, October 24 at 7 p.m. at the Waterford town office, 366 Valley Road, and will be hosted by John O'Brien.
There will also be films shown on Tuesday, December 11 at 7 p.m., hosted by Earl Morse, and Thursday, January 31 at 7 p.m, hosted by Ray Holme.
