Pictures of veterans needed
OXFORD HILLS — Uncle Sam Wants You. Sound familiar? Many area veterans joined the country’s military at a time when young men were drafted into the service after high school.
Although not drafted, many area women readily joined the military to serve their country in times of worldwide conflicts. Since the end of the draft, all branches of the military have become the nation’s formidable all-volunteer force.
Each year, the Oxford Hills pays tribute to area veterans. This year’s event, hosted by the American Legion Foster Carroll Post #72 in South Paris, will feature photographs of veterans from their periods of service. To help with this, they need you.
Please dig through those boxes of photographs, check those family albums, and find some photos of veterans from Oxford Hills for their slide show.
They would like to have some basic information, such as the military person’s name, branch of service, rank or rate, years of service, and perhaps the location where the picture was taken.
Entries will be scanned, and photos will be returned, as long as they are properly marked.
As a special feature, the Lighthouse Jubilee will perform musical selections from waaaayyyy back, to the '40s and '50s, including many patriotic songs popular today.
So please get those pictures soon. Send them to American Legion Post #72, P.O. Box 215, South Paris, ME, 04281, or you can drop them off during normal working hours at Oxford Hills Law, located at 197 Park Street in South Paris.
