Annual ATV Toy Run slated

FARMINGTON — The Western ME ATV Club, Canton Trail Riders, the Mountain View ATV Club and the Brettun’s Wheelers ATV Club are sponsoring their 16th Annual Whistle Stop Trail ATV Toy Run on September 29.

Registration will be from 8-9:45 a.m. at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail on the Town Farm Road in Farmington. The Boy Scouts will be selling donuts to of all the hungry riders and hot coffee for the chilly morning.

Last year there were 382 riders and 250 ATV’s and all were completely amazed at the amount of generosity from people all over the state.

The ride will start in West Farmington at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail in Farmington at 10 a.m., where they will ride to Wilton; an officer will stop traffic to cross Route 4 and riders will all regroup in the Jay Plaza parking area.

A Jay officer will then escort the group over the Memorial Bridge to the trail head leading to Canton. There riders will leave the toys with volunteers from the CAP Agency. The ATV’s again will head in a single file into the woods to return to Jay.

Last year, there was a string of ATV’s that was more than three and a half miles long. Onlookers stated it was an astonishing site to see. Riders continue on to the Jay Plaza where the Boy Scouts will serve a free barbeque meal (at approximately 2 p.m.).

Everyone who participates must get a meal ticket and register. Donations include gift certificates for local businesses, a helmet, picture portrait sitting, two-night stay at Breezy Acres, free night at Bass Hill Bed-N-Breakfast, gun rack, interior and exterior vehicle cleaning, oil change, shirts, water bottles, sleeping bags, hair certificates and a toy tractor trailer with sounds.

For the community they have raised over $50,000, consisting of toys and cash donations throughout the years. This will certainly help put smiles on many families' faces during the holidays. Santa will also be making a special appearance.

This would not happen without the help of so many volunteers, businesses who contributed merchandise, vendors and of course all the ATV riders who make this day so special. Each year it's hoped to get more participation from vendors.

If you are interested in setting up a display booth please contact them.

They are expecting an even larger crowd this year and are a completely nonprofit event. Riders do this to show the landowners how much their support in our sport is appreciated.

For more information, please contact Bob Dalot at 897-2926, Rene Grondin at 897-5501, Chris Currier at 441-5090, Stuart Allen at 779-4961, Brian Jordan at 357-4460 or George Guptill at 645-3552. Please visit their website at https://sites.google.com/site/westernmaineatvclub/home.

Information will be updated as it comes in and ride results will be posted.
