Harrison Old Home Days coming

HARRISON — Harrison Old Home Days will be held from Thursday, July 12 until Saturday, July 14. Set in the center of Harrison, this year’s festivities are sure to be a memorable event.

With Smokey’s Greater Shows providing thrill seekers with “can’t be beat” carnival rides, a brilliant fireworks display, and delicious food from a variety of vendors serving up favorite fair time treats, you are welcome to join in for one of Harrison’s finest traditions. The Harrison Old Home Days helps to support many of its community programs for youth.

Thursday is Hurricane Mountain, Friday night is blues straight from the S F Jones Band and Saturday night is the much loved and locally-grown Road Kingz. Just try not to dance. Speaking of dancing, The Imari Dancers will be performing at 7:30 p.m., to warm up the dance floor (well.. grassy area).

Harrison Old Home Days is calling for participants to join in for this year’s Grand and Junior parades. The theme is dedicated to Maine’s timeless traditions. You are asked, what is your favorite Maine tradition? Festoon your float or show off your boat. Apple picking or ice fishing, show your style. Maine has hundreds of years’ worth of tradition making. It is the true essence of this loved state.

The Grand parade opens registration at 9 a.m. on the corner of Depot Street and Rte. 35. Parade starts at 12 noon. Arrive early to get your spot in the fastest growing Grand Parade in the Western foothills!

Please remember the Junior Parade the night before, Friday July 13, in the parking lot of the Congregational church, with registration starting at 5:30 p.m. Participants are asked to show what 100 looks like. One hundred stickers on your bike or 100 tennis balls while wearing 100 hats. (Please do not bring 100 cats!)

Can’t think of 100 things? That’s ok … Children, some of you can show what your favorite Maine tradition is. What do you like about Maine? Maine has hundreds of traditions and this parade is going to show them off! Winners will be invited to ride in the Grand Parade on Saturday.
