Maple Sunday celebrated at Megquier Hill

POLAND — A sure sign of spring is the coming of Maine Maple Sunday, celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday in March. This year it falls on Sunday, March 24.

One of the more eventful local Maple Sunday celebrations is held annually at the Megquier Hill Farm at 260 Megquier Hill Road in Poland.

The celebration starts at 9 a.m. and runs until about 3 p.m. Visitors are treated to a hay wagon ride down to the sugarhouse. Here they can enjoy a pancake breakfast for a small fee, served all day until 3 p.m.

All visitors are invited to take a free narrated tour of the sugar house to learn first hand how the process works.

The local Grassholes Band will be playing their classic bluegrass music and songs.

Horse drawn sleigh rides (wagon rides if there is not enough snow) will be offered free to visitors along with helium balloons for the kids.
