Tremblay to show film, discuss new base
NORWAY — Regis Tremblay, an independent documentary filmmaker from Woolwich, has just returned from Jeju Island, South Korea where he spent three weeks filming a documentary.
He will present a short film on the history and significance of the five-year-old protest by the villagers of Gangjeong Village where a huge naval base to accommodate President Obama’s “Asian Pivot” is being constructed.
Tremblay’s presentation and film showing will take place at the Fare Share Commons, 443 Main Street in Norway at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. Organizer of the event is the Public Interest Forum, a monthly discussion series on issues of the day. The event is free and open to the public.
According to Tremblay, the U.S. naval base is destroying a bio-diverse region of the world protected by UNESCO and the South Korean government.
