Breakfast, maple sugaring at Norlands

LIVERMORE — Come experience a late winter ritual done the old-fashioned way at a 19th-century living history farm. In celebration of Maine Maple Sunday, March 24, the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will serve pancakes and sausage in the historic farmer's cottage.

Sap boiling demonstrations will take place in the Sugar House. Visitors can help tap trees and collect sap. In the one-room schoolhouse, meet the schoolmarm who will encourage you to practice your mental arithmetic and penmanship using a quill pen under her watchful eye. Bring snowshoes or sleds and enjoy the 445 acres at this National Historic Site.

Cost is $6 - $8 for pancakes and sausage; otherwise it’s free. This event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Living History Center is located at 290 Norlands Road in Livermore. For more information, call 897-4366, email norlands@norlands.org, or visit www.norlands.org. No reservations will be taken.
