Norland cure for cabin fever
LIVERMORE — The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center is open on Saturday, February 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by for some old-time fun, meet the neighbors and make new friends.
Activities are provided by interpreters in period clothing portraying people of the Norlands' neighborhood or members of the original Livermore Washburn family. The schoolmarm will be ready to greet you in the schoolhouse for a lesson from the 1800s.
You can try using a quill pen or test your skills in mental arithmetic or spelling. In the mansion you can chat with Washburn daughter, “Caroline,” or granddaughters, “Anna Maud” or “Ada,” as they show you through the family home and tell stories about their famous family.
The Washburn kitchen and farmer’s cottage will be a busy place with old-fashioned chores and games. Visitors will have a chance to help with washing and ironing and making butter, explore how mystery artifacts were used, and meet other Livermore neighbors.
Something delicious will be cooking on the woodstove. Bring your snowshoes and explore the beautiful grounds.
In case of inclement weather, this event may be canceled. Please call ahead or check their facebook page.
$5 admission benefits the nonprofit center.
