Democrats

COUNTY — The Oxford County Democrats held their organizational meeting for the 2013-2014 period and reelected Cathy Newell of Greenwood as chair, Mike Broderick of Bethel as Vice-Chair/Chair’s Designee for the Democratic State Committee, and Roy Gedat of Norway as Treasurer.

In other business, Rep. Sheryl Briggs of Mexico gave a short legislative report, and plans were announced for a Volunteer Recognition event on February 18 at the Oxford Casino.

A Volunteer Dinner for the Mexico Office was held on January 17 at Brian's Bistro in Rumford with an excellent turnout. A third event will be scheduled in early spring for the volunteers in Southern Oxford County including the Bridgton office volunteers.

There will also be a field trip to the Statehouse, including a visit to the Labor Mural at the Maine State Museum, on March 12 with details to be posted on the Facebook page.

There was a discussion of the upcoming redistricting process for legislative and county commissioner districts. Redistricting Commission Public Member Cathy Newell described the process and calendar.

Honey Bee

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s workshop will be held Saturday, February 9, at 1 p.m. at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road in So. Paris, Maine.

The speaker will be President of the Maine State Bee Association, and Master Bee Keeper, Carol Cottrill. Topic will be wintering bees. The public is welcome. For more information, contact John at 743-5009 or Kevin at farrout@roadrunner.com.

Swingin’ Bears

PARIS — The February dance of the Swingin' Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris will feature Darrell Sprague calling for the square dancing and Carol Stewart Arsenault cueing for the round dancing. It will be held as usual at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. in South Paris on Saturday, February 9 from 7-10 p.m.

Refreshments at the dances are always served at intermission with door prizes and a Pot O' Gold drawing. Admission is $6 per person. Non-dancers are welcome at no charge.
