Foster-Carroll meeting held

PARIS — South Paris Foster-Carroll Legion and Auxiliary 72 met for a potluck supper and business meeting on January 9, with two guests interested in joining the Auxiliary. President Carol Gould led the business meeting welcoming Nora Olson and Stephanie Fournier, who were voted in as new members.

The Unit's Charter was draped in honor of recently deceased members Edna Tobin, who had been a member for 40 years, and for Elsie Pechnik, who was an active member for 22 years.

A motion was made and carried to offer two $300 scholarships to two senior applicants to go towards college expenses.

Committee chairpersons reported on their activities. Indoor yard sales will be held at the Legion Hall on Saturday, March 9, and Saturday, April 6, with Jean Britton as chairperson. Public suppers with dances to follow will be held on Saturdays, February 16 and March 16. More details will be announced later.

The Midwinter Statewide Auxiliary Conference will be held on January 18 and 19. Gift items are to be sold as noted in the Pine Tree News for Special Olympics and they are to be brought into the Legion Hall or to Sylvia's home by January 18.

The Auxiliary is saddened to hear that no students were interested in participating in the annual Legion Oratorical Contest this year as it has been a great opportunity to earn college scholarship funds.
