BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, at the Bethel Inn. The menu is roast pork and the price of the dinner is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Crescent Park Chorus under the direction of Linda Stowell will be the program. Reservations must be made by December 1, by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877.

Historical

HARRISON — The Harrison Historical Society will hold the Annual Show and Tell Program on Wednesday, December 5, at the Carlson Homestead across Haskell Hill Road from the museum. Do you have a family heirloom, an interesting artifact, or a whatzit (tool, gadget or whatever of unknown usage) you could show us? Maybe you have a story to tell of growing up in Harrison or about an interesting Harrison character or event.

Please join in for a potluck supper at 5:30 p.m., and enjoy the fireplace, food and fun program. For more information please contact Elaine Smith at 583-2213.

PARIS — The November and December meetings of the Paris Cape Historical Society will be combined on Thursday, December 6 in a Christmas supper party. Members and friends are invited to the home of Cynthia Immonen, 43 Mountain View Drive in South Paris for a supper meeting at 5 p.m. followed by a Christmas story and the singing of Christmas carols.

Mountain View Drive is reached via the Paris Hill Road, and is almost opposite Phillips Road. Cynthia’s home is on the right after a sharp bend in the road, and will be marked by a lighted star in the front window. You may park in the driveway or along the street.

It would be appreciated if you would contact Cynthia at 743-2384 to tell her what you plan to bring for the supper so that she can coordinate everything. Bread or rolls, salads, casseroles and desserts are welcome.

Thursday, November 29 is the last Thursday afternoon that the museum will be open until May 2013. The next meeting of the society will be on April 18, 2013 at 7 p.m. If you would like to purchase anything from the museum store for Christmas gifts you may contact Cynthia Immonen at the number given.

HEBRON — Maine auctioneer and appraiser Jody McMorrow recently spoke to the Hebron Historical Society on his business, how he got into it, and how it has developed. He explained how and why auctions are held and how the auction value of items change over time.

He gave advice on what to expect when sending an item or house full of items to auction and his opinion of the merits on line auctions and when this vehicle might be appropriate. Members brought items for him to appraise and enjoyed his detailing of the factors affecting the value of the items.

At the next meeting the Society's program will be a three-part informational presentation on Medicare, Social Security and Wills. Doug Cooper of Norway will discuss the Medicare portion. The program will follow a short business meeting at 7 p.m. November 27 at the Hebron town office. The public is invited.

Democrats

BETHEL — The Oxford County Democrats will hold their December meeting on Sunday, December 2 from 1-4 p.m. at the Crescent Park School, Crescent Lane in Bethel. The meeting will include a potluck lunch with those attending asked to bring a dish to share. The agenda will include a de-brief of the 2012 election and planning for regional celebration events in January. Snowhoppers

PARIS — South Paris Snow Hoppers snowmobile club meets every third Thursday of the month at the South Paris Town Office. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. Come and join in on the fun and enjoy the activities.

VFW

PARIS — Floyd A. Harlow Jr. VFW Post 9787 will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at 58 Main Street in South Paris.

Knitting 

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will hold its Christmas meeting on Tuesday, December 4, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in South Paris. Bring gifts of food for the food pantry. After a short meeting and program the group will go to Maurice's for lunch.

Socrates Café

WATERFORD — A Socrates Café gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, December 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

H.O.P.E.

PARIS — The H.O.P.E. support group is delighted to announce that its weekly support group meeting has been invited to meet in the Haskell House of the First Congregational Church of South Paris. H.O.P.E. and the Church have had a nurturing, supportive relationship dating back to H.O.P.E’s beginning years in the late 1980s.

This confidential support group will meet every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. Ken Hamilton, H.O.P.E’s founder and Senior Guide, will facilitate this group. For further information, call him at 890-3673.
