County Democrats finish campaign

NORWAY — The Oxford County Democrats will wind up the campaign season with two suppers on Friday, October 26 in Norway and Thursday, November 1 in Rumford.

The Norway supper will be held at the Second Congregational Church at 5:30 p.m. and will feature a menu of ham, mac and cheese, salads and dessert prepared by the church volunteers.

Mike Tipping, popular blogger on politics for the Bangor Daily News will be the speaker and Oxford Hills candidates Rep. Terry Hayes, Dennise Whitley for Maine State Senate, Mary Lou St. John for House 95, Colin O'Neill for House 100, Charleen Chase for County Commissioner, and Carol Gutekunst for Register of Probate will be attending. Tickets are sold at the door for $10.

The traditional Final Push Supper will be held at the Rumford Eagles Hall on November 1 at 5:30 p.m. with Congressman Mike Michaud as the guest of honor and candidates Senator John Patrick, Rep. Matt Peterson, Rep. Sheryl Briggs, Mike Broderick, Jane Rich and Carol Gutekunst in attendance. The menu is spaghetti and the ticket price is $7 at the door.

The booth at the Fryeburg Fair was a tremendous success staffed by a great group of volunteers including Linda Goldsmith, Karen Bean, Pat Shearman, Jan Cardoza, Phil Ohman, Gayle Russell, Sallie Crittenden, Richard Beal, Diana Bell, Warren Richardson, Dotty Blake, Bob and Cindy Kirchherr, Jane Dineen, Deb Bullard, Nancy Willard, Irene Redman, Loraine Duclos, Kathy Burke, Eric Gothberg, Henry and Pat Stewart, Anita Hafford, Rose Rogers-Wells, Merrill Bittner, Nancy Noppa, Marlene and Larry Engdahl, Jimmy and Brenda McHugh, Cathy Newell and Rep. Helen Rankin.

Also, Bob and Lynn Duplessie, Andrea Burns and Jon Albrecht. The parade featured candidates Rep. Helen Rankin, House 97, Dennise Whitley, candidate for Maine State Senate, Lisa Villa for House 98, Charleen Chase for County Commissioner and former Rep. Bob Duplessie, plus a fine turnout of volunteers from Stefi Hasting's family, accompanying the Barack and Michell Obama cutouts, and vehicles driven by Jimmy McHugh of Mexico and Madeleine Bernaiche of Hiram.

County Chair Cathy Newell provided the announcements for the Oxford County Democrats during their marching. Candidates Helen Rankin, Dennise Whitley, Lisa Villa, and Charleen Chase had a reunion with Senator Olympia Snowe following the parade and took the opportunity to thank her for her years of service.
