Honey Bee
SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will meet on Saturday, September 8, at 1 p.m. at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, 9 Olson Road in South Paris. The workshop session will be on "Wintering Bees." For more information, call John Seilonen at 743-5009.
Historical
HARRISON — The Harrison Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, September 5, at 7 p.m. at the museum on Haskell Hill Road. The program will be on the Maxfield family which has been an important part of Harrison's history. The Maxfields have owned and operated numerous businesses in town. Two brothers, Harry and George, each ran a garage. Brothers Harold and Delmore owned and operated Maxfield Bros. Construction for many years.
Many family members have been active in town affairs, serving as selectmen and on other boards. They also have been active in town organizations such as the Town Band, Rebekahs and Grange. MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will be holding a fund raising yard sale on Saturday, September 1 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
Society members Jody and Judy McMorrow of McMorrow’s Auction Company have donated an interesting cache of household items, kitchenware, Christmas decorations, knickknacks, pictures and frames as well assorted odds and ends.
There will be bargains galore since all items will be priced to sell so money can be raised to help to maintain the society’s home, the former First Congregational Church, at 64 Elm Street, which was built in 1848.
If anyone would like to donate items to the sale please contact Eriks or Nancy Petersons at 345-3134 or e-mail nepesons@myfairpoint.net. The yard sale will be held on the grounds of the society.
WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society held its August meeting last Monday with an outdoor potluck supper and a lengthy business meeting with many items to vote on.
There were 18 in attendance. The dues were also raised from $5 to $10 annually. It was voted on to have a clearance bag sale on September 1, from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be some new items added and everything priced for the final sale of the year.
Robin Green gave a report on the historical block project and had more than 50 new pictures taken in the early ‘20s.
The Society has also successfully copied the 1903 in-town maps of West Paris that are on loan from the South Paris Cape Historical Society, with the kindness of Ben Conant. For more information, call Betty Jones at 674-2507.
