WATERVILLE — The Department of Maine Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 held their 100th convention on Saturday, June 23, at the Hampton Inn in Waterville. It opened with a granddaughter breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 9 a.m. called to order by Department President Elsie Bonney.
The Charter was draped in memory of deceased Past and National Presidents, Real Daughters and members.
Nancy Bettick Tent 23 and Marilyn Jones Tent 19 each received patriotic angel pins for taking in five new members to each Tent during the past year.
Past National President Gail Butterfield brought greetings to the group from National President Barbara Stone.
It was reported that Sally Sawyer and Jane Wardwell have each received 50-year pins for their long membership.
Jane Wardwell reported on the previous national convention in New York. President Elsie Bonney reported on the DUVS.
Delegates were chosen for the 2012 convention in California. Sally Sawyer will attend as a delegate with Beth Varney as alternate.
A picture of Albert Wilson, who was the last surviving Union veteran of the Civil War, was on display. He passed away in 1956 in Minnesota.
There was a floral tribute paid to all veterans and members who had passed on.
