Running Strong quilt project starts
AREA — The Pine Needles Quilt Group of Norway/Paris is making and collecting quilts for the Running Strong for American Indian Youth organization, headquartered in Alexandria, VA.
Running Strong’s mission is to help American Indian people meet their immediate survival needs while implementing and supporting programs designed to create opportunities for self-sufficiency and self-esteem. You can get more information about this organization at www.indianyouth.org.
White Wolf, husband of Pine Needles member Laura Freeman, has been supporting Running Strong for many years and has seen first-hand the needs of the American Indian people on the reservations through his Gathering of Eagles Ministry.
After seeing the quantity and quality of quilts produced by the Pine Needles quilt women for their annual Foster Quilts project, Wolf asked if the group could do the same for his favorite organization.
He contacted the Running Strong organization to confirm his idea and the Running Strong project began.
Already several quilts have been donated and more have been promised. Wolf has secured the shipping to their destination and will be sending the quilts sometime in September.
He is accepting new or second-hand quilts of any size. Used quilts must be clean and free of stains, tears, or fraying.
The Pine Needles Quilt group meets every Thursday at 9 a.m. in the community room of the Norway town hall. If you have a new or clean, gently used quilt to donate, contact Wolf at 743-6822.
