NORWAY — At its recent annual meeting, the Norway Historical Society selected Susan Denison, president, Anita Hamilton, secretary, and Ann Siekman, treasurer, as its new officers for 2013, and it thanked outgoing president Anita Hamilton for her efficient leadership. The Society also reviewed improvements it had made in 2012.

The Society purchased PastPerfect, a sophisticated museum software that will manage its entire collection.

The Society provided educational programs to Rowe School students with lessons that pertained to their classroom curriculum. On field trips to the Society, second through sixth grade students had the opportunity to “touch history” as they handled artifacts and viewed documents.

The Society established an active website and Facebook page. The website strives to be a more scholarly location for information about Norway's history while the Facebook page is less formal and more interactive.

The Society maintained solid finances through the generous support of its members and the ongoing frugality of its trustees.

The Society added 30 new gifts to its collection, the largest being the granite millstone used at the old paper mill that was located at Steep Falls. The millstone was moved to the lawn of the Society.

The Society turned one of its room into a research library.

Following the annual meeting, refreshments included a dessert that was a favorite at Barjo's Restaurant, a popular eating establishment on Main Street in Norway, now the site of The Great Wall Restaurant.

The museum is open to the public year round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. during the summer and by appointment. Admission is free.
