Universalist Church January services set

WEST PARIS — The public is invited to join in for Sunday worship services at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, which are presented by guest speakers and Worship Service Committee members.

All are welcome to attend; services are 9 a.m. every Sunday until mid-June. See what varied and thought-provoking sermons January brings:

January 6 - Expectations: Great and Otherwise. As the New Year begins, what are your plans, expectations, and hopes? Can the Buddhist lesson – to live in the moment – inform how you regard the future?

The service is led by The Reverend Fayre Stephenson, consulting minister at First Universalist Church in Norway, and who has become a regular guest speaker at the First Universalist, West Paris. A graduate of Harvard Divinity School, Fayre most recently served for many years as Program Director of the Unitarian Universalist Camp and Conference Center at Ferry Beach in Saco.

Prior to moving to Maine, Fayre enjoyed a long ministry as minister of the Foxborough Universalist Church in Massachusetts where she was voted Minister Emerita.

January 13 - Jubilee. In the Biblical tradition, a Jubilee was at the end of a seven-year cycle when all property was returned to the original owners, including Hebrew slaves; it represented a new beginning. Cindy Reedy, a regularly visiting guest speaker will lead this Sunday’s service. She is a third generation Unitarian Universalist and teacher.

January 20 - Remembering Dr. King. On this, the long weekend commemorating Martin Luther King Jr., his legacy will be explored and celebrated. The Reverend Fayre Stephenson leads this service.

January 27 - Celebrating Friendship, “The greatest things in life are not things.” (Pastor Rick Warren) Nancy Willard, Worship Service Committee member, leads this service.
