United Parish still standing

HARRISON — On September 1, the United Parish, Congregational Church of Harrison and North Bridgton had a fire which started overnight in the area of the dehumidifier and dishwasher.

The actual cause has yet to be determined, but people who were coming into the church to work at a public breakfast that morning opened the door and out came black smoke. They shut the door and called 911.

Thanks to a quick response from the Harrison Fire Department and help from other towns the church is still standing. On the outside all looks as usual, but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the building.

Professional cleaners are working five days a week to get the church cleaned up.

Worship services will be held at the Community Room of the Harrison Fire Station on High Street at 10 a.m. every Sunday until further notice. It will be several months until they will be able to use the building.

In the meantime the church phone is working and there will be message updates on the answering machine. Please call 583-4840 if you wish to have more information.
